The City of Portales has declared Stage 3 Emergency Water Rationing
June 28, 2023
The City of Portales has declared Stage 3 Emergency Water Rationing is now in effect. The City of Portales declared Stage 2 Mandatory Water Rationing two years ago and never lifted that declaration; with improved conservation efforts by the citizens and timely precipitation, we found it necessary to only enforce the mandatory watering schedule. A combination of extended drought, extreme heat and a decline in wellfield capacity has drastically reduced our ability to maintain adequate water reserves at the water tanks causing the city to take this action to preserve this precious resource. Starting June 28, 2023, we will be strictly enforcing Stage 3 Emergency Rationing. The following restrictions will remain in effect until the emergency is over.
Outdoor Landscape Watering: NO WATERING, except trees, shrubs, and vegetable gardens with shut-off hose and hand-held container.
Car Washing at Residence: Prohibited
Washing Down Pavement, Sidewalks, etc. : Prohibited
Spas, Swimming Pools, Ornamental Fountains: Prohibited filling and refilling.
Failure to Follow the Emergency Water Rationing Restrictions will RESULT in DISCONNECTION OF WATER SERVICE as per City Ordinances' Section 27-15 and 27-6
